Antiquarian Special Arrangement

In April 2013, the Faroese Prime Minister declared that the jurisdiction of the island of Koltur would be transferred from the Minister of Agriculture to the Minister of Education and Culture. Furthermore, he announced that an antiquarian special arrangement would be made for the island.

This means that Koltur is to become an integrated part of Faroese National Heritage, so that in the future the island is under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture’s staff, or people that the Ministry has arrangements with.

In relations to this, the Ministry of Culture has called upon Faroese National Heritage to make temporary arrangements with the Agency for Agriculture and Aquaculture and the tenants in Koltur about how the island is to be administered and maintained.

The Prime Minister’s announcement means that the antiquarian contents in Koltur will in the future be engaged as pubic employment under a national institution and not a private entity that is commercially financed, such as a tenant.
